Another interesting talk that I attended was the Stylish Space Solution by Maybelline Te, a Cebu-based interior and furniture designer. She studied Arts in Interior Design at The Art Institute of Charlotte, North Carolina where she earned Most Outstanding Portfolio Award. She also studied Art and Design Program at Strasbourg, France. And she had her internship at Barry Dixon Inc. in Warrenton, Virginia. Aside from her outstanding education she was able to participate in shows internationally including International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Architectural Digest Home Show and Boutique Design, all in New York City as well as other shows in North Carolina and Miami. The talk focused on personal style, essential how to’s and design trends.
The first thing that was captured during the talk was the Eye Catching Entry of the house because it is the first thing that will be noticed when entering and would make the lasting impression. Statement pieces was being emphasized because it adds beauty to ones wall. I will be showing sample photos, though it is not the same photos Maybelline Te showed during the event, still I can say that I was able grasp the idea.
Flying Colors. She pointed out that depending on a persons taste, one can do the layering technique by mixing styles, periods and patters. A lot of details will be added but it will still go together. The best example is mixing antiques and modern design or using multiple color in one area.
Artsy Fartsy. Having a gallery wall is an example. I seldom see gallery walls in most houses and I was amazed that we can truly do it in our home. She explained that we can use different artworks and it doesn’t need to have a theme, we can use different arts, frames and prints. Even collections and memorabilias can be used as designs on the walls.
There are actually trends in designing home, but she pointed out that each person has different taste that can shift or affect trends. This is really true and I can attest to that because I was raised in a home where in my mother hold on to childhood memories so she keeps on hoarding antique pieces from her mothers home, whereas her sister has a modern designed home with modern pieces displayed on each corner. Shifts that are affecting trends are: Anchoring, Cocooning, and Down Aging, all three are related because it reaches back to nostalgic childhood and the security you get on your home. Egonomics, Fantasy Adventure and Small indulgence are another shifts and they are related because it revolves on modern age, recognition and individuality. It is more like personal taste and preference.
Before the talk ended, we were given a paper with the list of questions of our favorites, and the game is called “Let’s Play Favorites”. I will be answering that questions on one of my future blogs just so you would know me better. It was very informative talk and I learned so much in terms of styling space with personal touch. Thanks Cybill, Maybelline Te and of course 32 Sanson by Rockwell for a very productive Saturday.

Interior design and fashion are 2 different things but both focuses on art. It is a good thing I was able to listen to this talk because it gave me an idea of what my future home would be. And if there is something that Maybelline Te said that has been embedded in my brain that is, you don’t need to have a lot of money to have a good taste and to buy only the thing that you love, not because it is expensive or it is the most trendy piece and everyone has it.
